1Protect the Center
Keep the central area of the board open. Pieces placed in the center give you maximum placement flexibility for future moves and combo chains.
2Maintain Even Columns
Try to keep column heights roughly equal. Uneven towers block long pieces and reduce your options for clearing entire rows.
3Use Corners Strategically
Corners are ideal for awkward L-shaped or small pieces that do not fit elsewhere, freeing premium center space for bigger placements.
4Control Board Density
Aim to fill no more than 60–70% of the board at any time. Keeping spare space lets you react to unexpected pieces without getting stuck.
Piece Prioritization
Not every piece deserves the same treatment. Learning which pieces to place first — and where — can mean the difference between a combo and a dead end.
- •Place Large Pieces First
Big pieces (2x4, 3x3) are hardest to fit. Secure their placement before placing smaller ones to avoid locking yourself into a corner.
- •Handle Awkward Shapes Early
L-shaped and T-shaped pieces can be disruptive if left for last. Position them where they complete partial rows or columns.

If a piece can complete a line and trigger a clear, place it first. Clearing lines early keeps the board spacious and opens combo opportunities.
Combo Chains
Setting Up Combos
Leave gaps in rows that a single piece can complete. Stack two near-complete rows so the next piece clears both, triggering a 2-chain combo.
Timing Your Clears
Do not clear a line the moment it is possible. Wait until a second near-complete row is in place so one move triggers multiple clears at once.
Cascade Effects
After a clear, falling blocks can complete new lines automatically. Position pieces to maximize these cascade reactions for exponential score gains.

Multi-Step Lookahead
Always think 3 to 4 moves ahead. Mentally simulate where each upcoming piece could land and what board state it creates before placing anything.
Board Zoning
Divide the board into zones — left, center, right. Assign piece types to zones based on shape so your board develops in a predictable, manageable way.

Top players recognize recurring board patterns that lead to cascades. Study your own games to identify setups that consistently produce high-scoring clears.
